Code of Research Ethics

Article 1 : Purpose

This code establishes the research ethics regulations for the articles submitted and published in the Proceedings of the Korean Institute of Bridge and Structural Engineers (hereinafter referred to as the Society), and the results of research services commissioned by the Society, and to establish the research ethics and integrity of the Society.

 

Article 2 : Research Ethics Committee

1. A research ethics committee is established when necessary to deliberate and decide on matters stipulated in this code.

2. The chairperson of the Research Ethics Committee shall be the vice-president in charge of academic affairs, and the chairperson convenes and presides over the Research Ethics Committee. However, in the case of a committee that does not include a vice president in charge of academic affairs, the chairperson is elected by election among the members.

3. A total of 9 members of the Research Ethics Committee, including the academic vice president of the society, the relevant editorial chair, and experts in related fields, are appointed by the president of the society. However, the author and research director of the thesis subject to the deliberation agenda cannot become members.

4. Research ethics committee meetings are held as soon as the agenda for deliberation is proposed.

 

Article 3 : Objects of Research Misconduct

Research misconduct applies to papers submitted to, and published in, academic journals and journals. The results of research services commissioned by the Society are also applied in accordance with the paper.

 

Article 4 : Author Qualification

Researchers with qualifications as a author are listed as authors, and researchers without qualifications are not listed as authors. The criteria for author qualification (recommended by the International Medical Journal Editors' Council) are as follows.

1. Sufficient contribution to 'concept and design' or 'data collection' or 'data analysis and interpretation'

2. Drafting or critical corrections to material intellectual content

3. Final approval of the version to be published

4. Consent to responsibility and confirmation that the issue of authenticity has been properly reviewed The results of research services commissioned by the Society are also applied in accordance with the thesis.

 

Article 5 : Fabrication · Falsification

Fabrication or falsification encompasses the act of intentionally expressing data, figures, and photos used in research differently from the truth as follows.

1. Fabrication refers to the act of creating false data or research results that do not exist.

2. Falsification refers to the act of distorting research contents or results by artificially manipulating the research process, etc. or by arbitrarily modifying or deleting data.

 

Article 6 : Plagiarism

1. Plagiarism means any act that scientific idea, opinion, expression and research results etc, which are already published through all written media such as domestic and international journal, published treatise of scientific meeting, research report, master·doctor degree thesis, book, magazine and internet etc. are described intentionally without disclosing their sources.

2. Plagiarism also applies when the researcher is the same as the author of an already published paper (self-plagiarism).

3. However, academic knowledge or research results that are already common and used in academia shall not be judged as plagiarism, even if they are described without citation.

 

Article 7 : Simultaneous Submission

Submitted papers cannot be submitted to other journals registered with the Korea Academic Promotion Foundation, candidates for registration, or duplicate submissions at the same time or before or after.

 

Article 8 : Redundant Publication

1. ① Papers published in journals registered with the Korea Academic Promotion Foundation, candidates for registration, or   foreign academic journals cannot be duplicated.

② Whether or not it differs from existing papers is judged based on the following criteria.

There must be a significant difference from the existing papers in at least two items in the research purpose, method, scope, data, results, and logic development method.

   ● Differences in language used are not recognized as discrimination.

2. ① Papers or articles published in journals or journals that are not registered or candidates for registration by the Academic Promotion Foundation, such as school journals, can be submitted and published only if they have been revised or supplemented.

② Whether to make corrections or supplements pursuant to the provisions of Article ① shall be judged based on the following criteria.

   ● There must be a significant difference from the existing papers in at least one item in terms of the research purpose,      method, scope, data, results, and logic development method.

   ● Differences in language used are not recognized as corrections or supplements.

3. When submitting a paper presented at an academic conference or part of it as it is or with corrections or supplements, the fact must be clearly stated.

4. When submitting a research report or part of it as it is or with corrections or supplements, the fact must be clearly stated.

5. When submitting a doctoral or master's thesis or a part thereof as it is, or with modifications or supplements, the author of the thesis must be included in the author list.

 

Article 9 : Judgment of Research Misconduct

1. If there is a report on research misconduct inside or outside the society, including members of the society, the editorial committee must collect the relevant data and confirm the credibility of the report.

2. After the editorial committee confirms the reliability of the provided information, it should put the matter of the research misconduct on the agenda of the research ethics committee and submit the review data.

3. The chairperson of the Research Ethics Committee gives the researcher an opportunity to explain in writing about the proposed agenda prior to deliberation.

4. The Research Ethics Committee decides on research misconduct with the attendance of 2/3 of the members and the consent of 2/3 of the members present, and deliberates and decides on the thesis submission ban period.

5. The president of the society notifies the researcher of the decision of the research ethics committee and the reason.

 

Article 10 : Objection

1. A researcher who has been determined to be a research misconduct may raise an objection in writing only once within one month from the date of notification if the research ethics committee's decision or the reason is judged to be unreasonable.

2. The Research Ethics Committee may review the validity of the objection and reconfirm or revise the content of the decision.

3. The president of the society notifies the researcher of the decision of the research ethics committee and the reason.

 

Article 11 : Confidentiality

1. The identity of the person who reported the research misconduct must not be disclosed to the public.

2. The identity of the researcher must not be disclosed to the public before it is finally determined as research misconduct or when it is determined that it is not research misconduct.

 

Article 12 : Resolution Handling

If the Research Ethics Committee determines that it is fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, or duplicate publication, the Research Ethics Committee sends the results of the investigation to the Reward and Punishment Committee.

 

Supplementary Provisions

 

 

Article 1 : Alteration and Abolition of Regulation

This code may be opened or closed by the resolution of the board of directors.

 

Article 2 : Execution Date

This code takes effect from the date of enactment.
